Story
I feel like the little train that said " I think I can".
Towards the end of last year, I come across the opportunity to run the London marathon as a fundraiser for PMH. So I started asking my friends and family their opinion, "Is $10,000 an achievable target?" Without hesitation, my brother said "Go for it, I'll help!" My parents were more hesitant (knowing they would be my first call every time I needed something- but none the less - immediately came onboard & are still taking my phone calls :-) Next I sat around a table with my girlfriends and we threw fundraising ideas around, pencilled a timeline and hoped it would all flow from there.
I hit the pavement with my running buddies, 6 days a week, keen to do a good time. Till injury struck, and I was literally treading water for training, deep water running to avoid impact, but still the little voice chanted "I think I can", although higher pitched & less convincingly than before. It was whilst I was treading water, that I realised I needed to re-think my goals and adjust my expectations. I laughed at how symbolically this journey reflects my life so far; I trust my emotions when making choices, which means I often take the long hard way round (42k & $10K) I don't mind a battle, ( in this case mind and body) and even when I am hurting, I believe I made the right decision. It has became important to me to finish this, rather than do a good time & there is definitley a gritty determined tone shouting "you can!"
I am please to write, the fundraising took off with its own momentum, and I have clicked over the $9K, and am on the hme stretch. I have 1 event left, which is the
"Phat Mumma Hustle- finish 5K" that we are hosting with the Busselton Jets Comuunity Running Group. The concept was to encourage inactive women who are usually daunted by "sports events" and encourage them to take part and celebrate who they are and the difference they make. I am proud of the overwhleming response we have had and am really looking forward to thanking these fabulous women on Sat 8th Feb. I have a feeling that many of these women will be a source of inspiration & their efforts in finishing 5, will get me through the dark moments I am expecting to encounter during the marathon.
For now, I must dash - there is training to do! I cant wait to change this blog to 4 little words.
